About the author

Marenda Hughes Taylor is a Breast Cancer Survivor THRIVING. She is also the founder and creator of the Fight Like a Grown Ass Woman Movement. Marenda was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer BRCA1+ at the age of 39 while working as a Senior Field Representative for the California State Legislature. Through chemotherapy, bilateral mastectomy, reconstructive surgeries, and recovery she made the conscious decision to take an integrative medicine approach using natural supplements and alternative medicines (such as cbd oil and medical cannabis) along with conventional medicine while addressing mind, body, and soul. Marenda immersed herself in various therapies including Reiki, Mindfulness Meditation, Yoga, and fell in love with Writing for Wellness at the Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach. Her quest for healing and recovery ultimately led to Marenda leaving her “good government job” to pursue lifestyle coaching, becoming a flight attendant and traveling. In 2018 Marenda at the age of 43 made the difficult decision to have a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and total hysterectomy to further reduce risks as a Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Syndrome gene carrier. This painful decision strengthened her resolve to use her story, voice, and experiences to advocate for breast cancer warriors while supporting, encouraging, and emphasizing the importance of medical research to find a cure for not just breast cancer, ALL cancers! Marenda is an advocate for Breast Cancer Research Foundation and has been Featured in Macy's breast cancer awareness campaign, Health Magazine, O Magazine, Allure Magazine, Elle Magazine, Sky Magazine, as well as on National and Local Television Programs to Inspire and Empower Breast Cancer Survivors and their loved ones. Marenda Believes Community Engagement is Important for Breast Cancer Survivors and is dedicated to using her journey to encourage, educate, and empower women to Never Give Up no matter what; to Fight Like a Grown Ass Woman!
